A BOMB squad was called to a Dundee flat when two suspected hand grenades were found following a man’s death.
Emergency services attended at Forester Street following the sudden death of a 74-year-old man.
But while in the property, the two devices were found by police and ambulance staff.
A bomb disposal unit from the British Army’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal was brought in.
It is understood that the devices were not live and police insisted that the public was not in danger at any time.
A police spokeswoman said: “Police Scotland attended at an address in Forester Street, Dundee, following the sudden death of a 74-year-old man at 10.15am on Tuesday.
“The EOD attended to assist with the recovery of two items and there was no risk to the public.”
A spokeswoman for the British Army confirmed that a bomb disposal unit was sent out to the city address, which is just off Ward Road, and safely recovered the two items.
A Scottish Ambulance spokesman said: “We received an emergency call to attend an address in Forester Street at 10am on Tuesday.
“Two ambulance units were sent to the address.
“Nobody was required to be taken to hospital.”
The death of the man is not being treated as suspicious and he has not been named.
Residents living in the street noticed the emergency services’ activity going on during the day.
Niall Watson, 21, a student who lives nearby, said that he saw the bomb disposal unit when he was walking to class at about noon.
He said: “I briefly saw a bomb disposal van when I was going to class.
“You don’t expect to see something like that when you walk out the door.”
Jennifer Barclay, 20, another student who lives in the area, said: “I was pretty scared when I heard the bomb disposal team were on the street.
“I didn’t know what to think when my neighbour told me.
“I was out most of the day but when I came back I saw two police cars across from the flat and one out on the main road.”
Kat McKinnon, 45, a resident of Forester Street, said: “There were a few police cars on the street throughout the day. I saw three or four police vehicles in the area at one time.
“Because the police station is so close, sometimes the police will briefly park their cars on the street. But it was strange to see so many in the street at the one time.”
Another woman, who works in the area, said: “I saw a police van when I was leaving work at about 4.45pm.
“I didn’t know what was going on but I saw two police officers go into a close on the street.”
