Dundee pupils will return for the summer term on Monday as planned, following national concerns over school building safety.

Structural issues with schools in the Edinburgh Council area, built under the Public Private Partnership scheme, sparked fears there could be similar issues with other local authorities’ buildings.

However, Councillor Gregor Murray, depute convener for the children and family services committee, said: “All of our schools will be opening on Monday as planned. We have no concerns about the integrity of any of our schools but, as ever, keep a continuous eye on all of our buildings.”

Council leader Ken Guild added: “Had anything been found, immediate action would have been taken.

“The checks were carried out by council officers. There is no cause for concern.”

Eight schools in Dundee were built through the Dundee Schools PPP Project, including Grove Academy and Fintry Primary.

Miller Construction, the company which built the Edinburgh schools, did not build the Dundee PPP Project schools.

The inspections were carried out following Scottish Government guidance.
