Excited well-wishers eager to catch a glimpse of Prince William and Kate turned out in the city.
The Earl and Countess of Strathearn will spend most of the day in the city, touring a variety of projects involving young people and mental health.
Streets around the Dundee Rep, which was to be their first official stopping-off point, had a strong police presence.
Before it got light, people were already beginning to queue to see the royal couple.
First at the scene was Margaret Gardiner, from Downfield, and her great-granddaughter, 11-year-old Abbie Smith, from St Mary’s.
Abbie, who is a pupil at Craigowl Primary School, said she was a great fan of William and Kate and was excited to see them.
Margaret saw William and Kate before when she travelled to Edinburgh to join crowds at the wedding of Zara Philips and Mike Tindall.
She said: “Abbie and I were both excited to see the royal couple and we came down early to get a front-row view.”
Also queuing up from first thing was Ellie Holt, from Ardler, her mum Tracy McNamara and her aunt Michelle Bain.
Ellie said: “I’ve been here since six o’clock this morning, as I was so excited to see the royal couple.”
The duke and duchess were due to arrive at the theatre at around 10.30am where they were meeting families taking part in one of the theatre’s regular family fun day programmes before a visit to The Corner, the RRS Discovery and then Abertay University.
