A Dundee band has been given the boot — after scoring an advertising deal with a iconic footwear brand.

Vladimir, whose members all grew up together in the city, has provided the soundtrack to the latest Dr Martens advert.

Their latest tune – entitled In My Head – was chosen by the British footwear brand for an advert that features a graffiti artist called Vibes completing a piece of artwork called the Dr Martens x Hogarth Mural.

Drummer Sam Taylor, 20, told the Tele the band “are musicians not models” and that they would continue to concentrate on their music despite the achievement.

He said: “I am not that sure what happened — it was all a bit mental if I am being honest.

“We woke up one morning and had a message from our manager saying that Dr Martens had been in touch asking if they could get more information about us.

“Then they emailed us saying that we could go on the website and pick out a few sets of boots for the band.

“We have been offered a few more features — the advert will just be the start.

“It was totally out of the blue. I was completely surprised when I saw the email.

“We recently did a gig with The Libertines in Nottingham and they got in touch with us not long after, so it has been a great few weeks for the band.

“We just play music, we don’t go looking for sponsors or anything — if it comes along then it is a bonus.

“We are musicians not models and we will keep on concentrating on that.

“We are in a really good place and working hard on new material so we won’t be letting it knock us off our stride.”

Sam and band mates Peter Mackenzie, 22, who is lead guitarist, vocalist Ross Murray, 22, and bass player James Ritchie, 24, have been playing music together since school.

Sam added: “We started playing music around 2010.

“We started taking it seriously a while after that and we first got noticed in 2013.

“Since then we have been working hard coming up with material, playing and touring as much as we can.

“The advert is quite symbolic of the work we have put in but we are still working as hard as we can — there is a lot of stuff in the pipeline.”
