A DUNDEE landlady had her head smashed against a door and arm broken after she tried to wake up a sleeping pub customer.
Kirstyn Bruce described how she was left shaking after “violent and aggressive” customer James Craig assaulted her in Union 39 bar, where Decades now is located.
Speaking today about the incident, the 42-year-old revealed how her confidence has been severely dented by the brutal attack.
She said she was forced to give up working at the Union Street pub and now works as a cook in another city bar.
Craig, 35, of Brown Street, admitted a charge of assault to severe injury at the city’s sheriff court.
He is yet to be sentenced.
Kirstyn, of Claverhouse, said it did not matter what sentence Craig receives, saying the harm has already been done.
She added: “Things will never be the same for me again. It was a shocking, completely unprovoked attack that left me shaking and in hospital.
“My arm was left broken and dislocated. It was sticking out the wrong way and made me feel physically sick when I saw it. I was in plaster and bandages for months and I will never have the full use of my arm again.”
Kirstyn said she has worked in bars since she was a teenager, adding: “I know how to handle my customers but have never been in a situation like this before. I have always dealt with situations in the bar myself but, after the attack, I felt the need for a doorman.
“It was a normal, not too busy Thursday night when my barmaid came to me and said she thought a man had fallen asleep. I went over to him to ask if everything was OK. He immediately turned aggressive with me.
“He was violent and vulgar and while I tried to reason with him and calm him down he dragged me to the ground, smashed my head against the cellar door and twisted and pulled my arm so violently it ended up dislocated and broken.”
During a court hearing, fiscal depute Saima Rashid said: “He pulled her by the arm, dragged her to the ground, punched her on the head and stamped on her arm.”
Sheriff Alastair Brown said the attack, on November 27 last year, was an “appalling assault”.
