A BUSINESSMAN hopes to open Scotland’s first branch of an international restaurant chain in Dundee.
Alfy Hayat submitted an application to Dundee City Council to turn an empty shop space at Lochee High Street into a restaurant serving up doner kebabs.
The businessman — along with his brother, Akky — plans to open up the new eatery under the umbrella of the German Doner Kebab franchise.
Alfy said: “We are looking to bring a new food experience to Dundee. The German Doner Kebab franchise is growing and we’re hoping to be the first to bring it to Scotland.
“It is hoped we will be able to open up a restaurant on the High Street in Lochee in a building which has been empty for a long time.”
Alfy has earmarked the Foot Factory, which has been closed for years, for his new venture.

If the application is accepted, it will be the first of three German Doner Kebabs Alfy and Akky hope to roll out in Dundee.
Akky said: “It only takes one good business in an area to help pick the place up.
“If this is successful, I think having the restaurant will give the High Street a boost.
“I think all Lochee High Street needs at the moment is a new injection of business.
“Hopefully opening up a modern restaurant which offers a healthier style of kebab will be the start of something positive.
“The franchise already has around 45 to 50 restaurants in 10 different countries.
“If all goes well, Dundee will have Scotland’s first German Doner Kebab opening up in the city very soon.
“We submitted an application to open another GDK shop on Strathmore Avenue but that was rejected.”
German Doner Kebab opened its first store in Berlin in 1989.
