A pensioner was airlifted to Ninewells Hospital today after cycling into the back of a stationary truck.
The man, who is said to be in his 80s, is said to have suffered “serious” head and neck injuries in the incident at Auchterarder.
Paramedics attended to the man after receiving the call at 10.47am on the town’s East Hill Road.
They then requested the assistance of the Scottish Charity Air Ambulance so he could be quickly transferred to hospital.
A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Helimed 76 is bringing a patient in from Auchterarder.
“A gentleman in his 80s had been on his bicycle and ran into a stationary truck.
“The patient is currently being flown into Ninewells.
“He has head and neck injuries which are described as potentially serious.
“The call came in at 10.47am and a local ambulance crew was on the scene at East Hill Road in eight or nine minutes.
“They resquested assistance from Helimed 76.”
A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: “Police Scotland received a report at about 11.50am regarding a road traffic collision involving a cyclist and a stationary lorry that happened in Easthill Road, Auchterarder.
“The cyclist sustained serious injuries and has been taken to Ninewells Hospital by air ambulance for treatment. Inquiries into the incident are continuing and anyone with information to assist officers is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101.”
