The dad of a young girl who was knocked down by a car told today of his horror as he watched the vehicle hit her.
Anna Cobb, 5, was struck by the car in Dundee’s Balgarthno Road just before 7pm Wednesday.
Anna, her dad Michael, and sister Grace were waiting to cross the road when Michael said Anna just ran out.
Michael, 29, added: “I’d been asking her to stand and wait but she just took off. The next thing she ran into the side of a passing car.
“I was in complete shock and didn’t know what to expect. I ran straight to her and was so relieved when she began to cry. I reckoned that if she was crying she was probably going to be OK.
“It all happened so quickly. One minute she was beside me, the next moment she was lying on the road. There was quite a lot of blood and Anna was howling when she saw it.
“Loads of neighbours came out to help while others called for the emergency services.”
Michael said the driver of the car also came to make sure the young girl was OK.
Anna was taken to hospital where she suffered a broken leg but no other serious injuries.
Anna’s stepmum Dannii Curran, 24, said she was in the house when the accident happened.
She added: “We all got such a fright and my daughter Grace Curran, six, who was with Michael and Anna, is still really, really upset.
“Michael went away to hospital with Anna in the ambulance while I went and got Anna’s mum to take her to the hospital. We all spent time with Anna in hospital on Wednesday night.”
A spokesman for the Scottish Ambulance Service said: “We received multiple 999 calls about a child being knocked down by a car. We attended the scene and took a young child to hospital.”
A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “We attended in Balgarthno Road, Dundee, following a report of a road traffic collision involving a young girl and a car at about 6.50pm on Wednesday. The girl sustained a leg and head injury in the incident.”
Anyone with information has been urged to call 101.
