West End businesses say they are “undeterred” by the next spate of road works which will see a section of the Perth Road closed for six weeks.
Work has started between the Glamis Road and West Park stretch of the Perth Road, as gas firm SGN carried out upgrades in the area.
Signed diversions have been put in place via Glamis Road, Blackness Road and Blackness Avenue to insure there is minimal disruption to commuters and neighbouring businesses.
Perth Road businesses have already faced a summer of road works, with the shopping district reduced to one lane for a number of months.
The road was only recently reopened after Scottish Water finished water mains upgrades in the area which had impacted on some businesses in the West End.
Speaking to the Tele today, two local proprietors say they are optimistic this next series of works won’t impact on trading.
Jonathan Stewart, 35, licensee at the Speedwell Bar, said he doesn’t foresee any disruption.
He said: “It was closed for six weeks recently and it didn’t have too much of an adverse effect on our trade.
“It made deliveries a bit of an issue but due to the fact alternative routes are available, I can’t envisage any disruption.”
Dilly Milne, 46, of The Rosebud added: “The road is certainly a lot busier since the last spate of road works drew to a close.
“After that I think we are undeterred with these road works.
“I hope customers will have no issues accessing the shopping district.”
Pupils accessing Harris Academy will face some disruption with alternative routes in places for buses travelling on and around the roads surrounding the school.
A spokeswoman for bus firm Stagecoach said: “During the period of road works on Perth Road, services 16, 204, X7, X53 and school service C28 will be diverted.
“Stops on Perth Road at Farington Street, Farington Terrace, West Park Road, Grosvenor Road, Hyndford Street and Windsor Street will also not be served during this closure.”
SGN team manager Ralph Caldwell said: “We understand that road works can be frustrating and are sorry for any inconvenience caused.”
