A Dundee woman has spoken about being “shaken up and disgusted” after a motorist spat and swore at her during a road rage incident.

The woman, who asked not to be named for fear of retribution, today spoke to the Tele about the incident in Ardler.

She said she was driving along Hazlehead Place just before 1pm when she noticed a driver in a silver Volkswagen Golf coming towards her.

She added: “I had just turned into the street from Rosemount Road.

“He came speeding round the corner and just about lost control of his car, so I stopped. He kept coming towards me.

“When he was alongside me, he said that I was an idiot’. I replied, ‘You are the one driving erratically’.

“He then spat at me, which luckily missed me, and then he sped off, scraping my car as he did so. I phoned the police straight away, but unfortunately I only got the first three digits of his number plate.”

The woman said the cost of the damage to the wing and alloy wheel of her black Vauxhall Corsa was yet to be assessed.

She added: “I was really shaken up, especially when he spat at me.

“Luckily it just hit the window and the side of the car — it was really disgusting.

“He had no intention of backing up so I could get through safely. He just carried on and I heard an awful screeching noise as he scraped my car.

“He looked in his mid-20s. I don’t know whether he was drunk or on drugs.

“It was an awful way to act, especially in a built-up area. If there had been a child or an older person crossing the road they could have been knocked down. It was really dangerous.

“I’m so angry, because if I claim on my insurance then I’ll lose my no claims bonus, but if I don’t claim, I will have to pay for it myself.”

She said she hoped there might be CCTV in the area which may have captured the incident on film.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Officers are making inquiries to trace the driver of a silver Volkswagen Golf following a collision with a black Vauxhall Corsa car that happened in the area of Hazlehead Avenue and Rosemount Road, Dundee, at about 12.50pm on October 12.

“Anyone who has information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101.”
