Ricky Hatton fundraiser for Mike Towell closes at £47,000

A fundraiser for the family of tragic Dundee boxer Mike Towell has has reached nearly £47,000.

Boxing legend Ricky Hatton announced the total after the deadline for donations came to an end.

He said: “The Iron Mike Towell fund has now closed at about £47,000.

“Very proud of everyone and boxing.

“I’ll make sure it gets to the family RIP.”

The Dundee boxer died 12 hours after his life support machine was switched off in Queen Elizabeth University Hospital a day after his bout with Welsh boxer Dale Evans on September 29.

He was knocked down twice during the fight which was stopped in the fifth round and he was stretchered to hospital after the fight.

The target of £20,000 was more than doubled after the fundraiser was launched just after the death of the Dundee boxer.

The money will go towards supporting his partner Chloe Ross and his young son, Rocco.
