There may be light at the end of the tunnel for a pedestrian underpass that has been plagued by flooding issues.
The underpass — which is maintained by roads maintenance body Bear Scotland on behalf of Dundee City Council — links bus stops on Forfar Road and Morrisons supermarket.
But the underpass is so regularly so full of water that it’s been impossible to use, meaning a lengthy diversion for pedestrians.
Bear Scotland said that a permanent solution had been found for the problem, which includes the installation of an electric pumping system.
A spokeswoman for the company said: “The new pumps were activated on Monday and the underpass is dry.
“The pump supplier has attended the site and completed a check of the system.
“We completed a further inspection of the underpass on Monday evening and first thing Tuesday to ensure the pumps continued to operate effectively.”
Bear Scotland carried out regular inspections to pump away any surface water while the permanent solution was designed.
Local councillor Lesley Brennan said residents continually complained about the flooding.
She added: “Given there was high water there earlier in the year, it’s exceptionally disappointing to hear that it’s flooded again.
“It’s great to hear that it’s been fixed.
“But considering it’s been done before, I hope this is a long-term solution.”
She said the flooding had caused a safety issue in the area as people dashed across the busy Forfar Road.
Brian McDonald, 49, said he had seen the new pumps being installed but was worried they weren’t working.
The charity worker from Linlathen added: “It’s very annoying.
“I thought I saw them testing the pumps, so it’s a concern there’s flooding again.
“I hope the pumps are switched on soon.”
Sara Rafferty, 27, a cashier from Fintry, said: “The problem is on and off, which is very annoying. Ultimately, it’s an inconvenience to have to walk all the way around.”
