A Dundee band has been shortlisted to play a lucrative slot in Edinburgh’s Hogmanay celebrations.
Sinderins is among eight acts in the running to play one of two gigs supporting Paolo Nutini.
The group describes its sound as atmospheric folk rock.
The public can now vote for who they’d like to see take to the stage.
Winning the competition would be the icing on the cake for the band who comprise Gavin McGinty, Stevie Anderson, Tom Barbour, Billy Fisher and David Webster.
The name, Sinderins, comes from the area of the city where Perth Road, Hawkhill, Blackness Avenue join together.
Gavin told the Tele it’s been quite a year. He said: “We’re busy preparing for our hometown show in the Whitehall Theatre on the December 28. We’re perfecting that at the moment – but an invite to Edinburgh’s Hogmanay would be magic.”
The band has gone from strength-to-strength having released its self-titled album in the summer, attracting interest from as far afield as Australia.
Website Music Injection describes the group as a “meeting and meshing of talents and minds”.
On its single, Fayre, a reviewer writes: “David Webster hits and sustains a high note across four bars. Initial attempts to record this fell short so, channelling something he had read about Thom Yorke leaping into a fjord, Webster asked his band mates to douse him in ice water before he ran to the mic. That first take is the one that was used on the final record.
“With Fayre the band have created something that draws on tradition; the tradition of the Folk scene, sure, and on their own personal histories. It is where ideas, techniques, traditions and friends – old and new – come together.”
Gavin is delighted with the way his group is being recognised. He said: “A few doors have opened since it was released. We played a few summers shows and some London showcases. We’re always in constant progression.
“To top the year off performing on Hogmanay in Edinburgh, we’d be delighted.”
The two winning acts will open the Night Afore Concert, on December 30, or Concert in the Gardens on December 31.
Over 400 musicians from across the country entered the competition. The shortlist was narrowed down to the final eight, with the help of Paolo Nutini who had a say in the list.
Voting closes at midnight on Sunday with the winners being announced on Wednesday December 14.

Gavin added that fans can expect “a full spectrum of everything that we do, from intimate moments to loud and brash.
“It will be a great night.”
