An inquest is being launched into the death of a Dundee man who jumped from a hotel window while on holiday in Turkey.
William Wallace died on October 8 as a result of brain injuries while in hospital in Izmir, after calling his father to tell him he was in trouble and feared for his life.
A spokesman for the Manchester coroner’s office — the city where William’s body was flown back to — confirmed it had ongoing involvement in the case.
Questions were raised at the time in Turkey about the state of William’s mental health, but his father, also called William, said there was never any history of mental health regarding his son or in his family.
He said the family was still no clearer as to why William Jnr decided to jump from the hospital window.
He said: “We’re still totally in the dark.
“We have had absolutely no answers and very few people have been in touch about it.
“The Foreign Office haven’t been in touch with us and it makes things very difficult for us to deal with.
“Even if they were answers we didn’t want to hear, that would be better than nothing at all.
“It is a priority for us, but I suppose it is just another case for those people who are looking into it, so I don’t know when we will be any clearer.”
William Snr added that the coroner in Manchester had contacted him to say an inquest was to be carried but said he did not know whether that had begun yet.
A spokeswoman for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office said it could not comment on specific cases.
She added: “We are not an investigating authority. Our role would be to liaise with local police in Turkey and provide a link between them and the family if necessary.”
William Jnr had been holidaying alone when his dad started receiving worrying phone calls from him. He called William Snr from hospital having sustained injuries after jumping from a moving taxi he feared was kidnapping him.
Speaking to the Tele last month, William Snr said: “He was absolutely terrified of something and told me people were after him and he didn’t know whether he’d make it back home.”
He added that he received a call from the hospital, telling them William Jnr had attempted to jump from a window, only to find out a few days later that he had in fact jumped, and needed an operation on his brain.
William and his wife Jeanette flew out to Izmir to be with their son and try to find out what had happened on October 6. The Charleston man died of his injuries two days later.
