An Edinburgh businessman has pulled out all the stops to get Megan Fletcher to her chemotherapy appointments in the capital.
Sandy Bloomer took Megan to the skies to ensure the closure of the Forth Road Bridge didn’t mean she had to endure numerous bus and train journeys to and from the hospital.
Sandy runs Gift Experience Scotland, which gives people the opportunity to take part in exciting experiences.
One of the services he offers is helicopter tours and on Friday he had his helicopter brought to Dundee to fly Megan and her mum, Shona, to Edinburgh.
Sandy put Megan up in accommodation in the capital on Friday and Saturday night helped with other arrangements while they were there.
He then made sure they got to their accommodation for the next four nights that has been paid for by Dundee couple, Michelle and Darren Anderson.
Sandy’s helicopter will also collect Megan and Shona next Friday and fly them back to Dundee.
Megan, 14, has spearheaded the Tele’s Bald is Beautiful Campaign and helped us raise £20,000 for Dundee families who have a child with cancer.
She has been travelling by car to Edinburgh, with her mum, for treatment, but the bridge closure meant they were faced with several nightmare journeys next week.
Shona told the Tele they would have to use public transport on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday to travel back and forward for three days of chemotherapy treatment.
She said: “Megan has been pretty unwell this time following her chemo and the thought of her travelling back to Dundee on the train was really upsetting.
“Sandy’s offer is amazing and we are so excited about flying in the helicopter.
“Megan has been a little down this week so this is just the boost she needs to pick her up again.”
Speaking at the airport ahead of the journey, Megan said: “This is so exciting. I can’t believe that I’m away to go on a helicopter to fly to Edinburgh.
“I’ve never been in one before and I can’t wait.”
Airport manager Derrick Lang said: “We have waived all the charges today to help.”
