BIN collections in Dundee will be affected by the festive holidays, the city council has said.
Those who normally have their regular bins — food waste, glass and trade waste collected on a Friday will see the service operating two days behind.
Collections planned for this Friday, Christmas Day, will take place on Sunday December 27 — with the service operating on January 3 next week instead of New Year’s Day.
Households whose brown bins are due to be collected on Christmas Day will be picked up on December 29 instead.
Meanwhile, special collections and bulky uplifts have been suspended until January 5.
The local authority’s two recycling centres — based at Riverside and Baldovie — will be closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day, as well as New Year’s Day and January 2. The centres will, however, be open from 9am to 4.15pm on all other days.
Locals who have items that they feel could be reused by someone else are encouraged to contact the Community Re-Use Hub on 07565 811823.
Several other council services will be affected over the festive period.
The animal control service is urging people who have complaints about the presence of stray dogs to contact Police Scotland over Christmas and New Year.
The council-run Brown Street Kennels, meanwhile, are closed Friday and Saturday, reopening on Monday with hours of 11am-1pm. From Tuesday until Hogmanay the kennels will operate as normal before closing again on January 1 and 2. It will open from 11am to 1pm on January 4, before returning to normal operations from January 5.
Community centres across the city will be closed from today until January 4 inclusive, reopening on January 5.
The corporate debt and welfare reform service will only operate on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of next week — returning to full business the following Tuesday.
People looking to use the registrars office could do so until 3pm today for emergencies, as well as on Monday (10am-3pm). Normal hours are in operation until Hogmanay, with the office only open again on January 4 for emergency registrations, a full service returning on January 5.
With regards to other services, the local authority said: “There will be no changes to our Home Care service or Social Care Response service.
“Meals Service will have one delivery on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. This consists of a hot meal at lunchtime and a cold sandwich and pudding for the evening.
“Practical Support Services will look at alternative days for provision along with the Handy Person Service. Out of Hours Home Care Service will be working as normal over the festive period.”
All other offices and facilities will be closed on Christmas Day, December 28, New Year’s Day and January 4.
