Less than three weeks remain for Dundonians to submit their photographic brilliance for the 50th Annual Photographic Competition and Exhibition.

Submissions for the event, which is organised by Dundee City Council Neighbourhood Services Department in association with the Dundee Photographic Society, will close on January 25.

Winners will be announced at 7.15pm on Monday February 15 at the Marryat Hall.

An exhibition will then run from Wednesday February 24 through to Wednesday March 9 at Central Library.

Submissions can be made as digital images or as monochrome or coloured prints.

There are four trophies on offer along with various miniatures, cash prizes and prize vouchers.

The Dundee Corporation Trophy will be awarded for the three images which best portray Dundee in print and/or projected image.

The Robert Saunders trophy — to be presented by Robert and Ivan Saunders, whose father was an early exponent of colour photography — is awarded annually for the best projected image taken in any park in Dundee.

For the all-rounders, the Dundee Photographic Society Trophy recognises the photographer who obtains the highest overall aggregate points total from projected image, monochrome and colour print sections in the open competition.

The finest young snapper will be commended with the Jim Coleman Trophy, awarded for the best image taken by someone under the age of 18.

The competition will involve an independent expert judge critiquing and scoring each entry, and is a great opportunity for photographers of all ages and abilities to learn the tricks of the trade through the eyes of an expert.

Environment convener Councillor Craig Melville said: “The competition is a fantastic way of showcasing the wealth of artistic talent within the city and also highlights the beautiful natural history and built architecture that the city and the surrounding area has to offer.

“I would recommend that any budding photographers who have not entered before do so as it is a great way of developing your talent in a friendly and sociable environment.
