What young girl wouldn’t love a dream day out, being pampered with a professional make-over, relaxing manicure and treated to new clothes?

Not to mention the chance to take part in a professional fashion photo shoot.

And when you throw in free boxes of fabulous beauty products, coffee and cake and a delicious free lunch, what’s not to like?

Well, that’s what the Tele organised for Megan Fletcher — the brave young girl behind our Bald is Beautiful campaign.

With help from staff and retailers at Dundee’s Overgate Centre, we gave the 14-year-old and her mum Shona a day they won’t forget in a hurry.

When Megan was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma last month, she took the brave decision to have all her hair shaved off before her chemotherapy treatment began.

At the time, she said she wanted to turn her illness into something positive.

She thought the best way to do this was to speak out about what was happening to her.

And, in conjunction with the Tele and Dundee fundraiser Charlie Kean, Megan has been campaigning to raise £20,000 for Dundee families who have children suffering from cancer.

We realised just what a big deal it was for a teenager to speak publicly about her illness — not to mention shaving off her hair.

So, we thought we could do something to help Megan promote just how incredibly beautiful bald could be.

And, as the amazing pictures show, Megan — with her ever-present smile — is looking beautiful and happy.

Metta Ramsay, retail marketing assistant at the Overgate, was more than happy to help plan a day out for Megan and Shona.

Shona said: “This is just amazing. We can’t believe how much was planned for us.

“Megan has been so brave and really deserves this amazing treat she has been given.

“It also allows us to have some fantastic and relaxing mum and daughter time given all we have been through recently.”

Megan’s day began in New Look, with the store allowing her to choose an entire new autumn outfit to keep — completely free of charge.

After a good browse, Megan chose the first outfit she tried on — a trendy pair of tartan leggings, with a matching top, jacket and boots. She said: “I love this outfit and don’t even want to try on anything else!”

Next stop was Elegance Hair and Nails. Staff there treated Megan and Shona to a manicure and fashionable Shellac nails.

Then it was on to the Urban Decay counter in Debenhams, where make-up artist Zoe Carradice gave Megan a full make-over.

Megan said: “I love this make-up. I haven’t worn very much since I got my diagnosis, so it’s been lovely being shown how to apply it properly.”

Then came a trip to Topshop, where Megan was invited to choose an ultra-trendy outfit.

Other treats on the day included beauty products from Debenhams, Urban Decay and Lush, a gift voucher from the Overgate, coffee and cake at Starbucks, lunch in Debenhams, a box of Krispy Kreme doughnuts, and parking passes from NCP.
