An independent Dundee cafe, described as “an institution”, is to close its doors for the last time after nearly three decades.
The Parrot Cafe, on Perth Road, opened in 1987 and is famous for its home bakes.
It has always been run by owner Val Ireland, with the help of two generations of students. But her loyal customers will have to find a new tea and coffee house.
On November 14, Val will hang up her apron. She said: “I’ve been here so long that I’ve been called an institution. It really has been a long-term business.
“I’m nearing an age where I thought I would retire anyway. My regular customers are very saddened as this is their home from home.”
