The family of a Tayside man who died after losing a two-year battle with a brain tumour today described him as an outstanding man.
Nick Charles, 41, died at home in Errol with his mum Carol at his bedside.
Three years ago, on the day of Nick’s graduation from Dundee University as a town planner, he started experiencing headaches.
He was then later diagnosed with a brain tumour.
Today his grandad Ronald Duncan, 88, described Nick as a thoroughly decent and good guy.
Mr Duncan said after Nick was first diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumour around three years ago he received treatment at the time.
Mr Duncan said Nick was operated on and had been making good progress.
Mr Duncan said: “Sadly however round about November last year the illness came back and the family were told it was terminal.”
He said his grandson did not return to hospital and was cared for at home by his mum.
Mr Duncan added that Nick’s mum, who is his daughter, was very keen to look after her son at home in the final few months of his life.
He said: “He was a very keen fisherman and was always out on the lochs.
“He was a very hard worker and was an excellent father to his daughter Bethany.”
Nick was brought up in Scone and went to school in Perth. He lived latterly in Errol.
Friends posted tributes to Nick on social media after he passed away on Monday.
In a tribute posted by Deb Brown, she said it was with a very heavy heart and great sadness that she was paying tribute and wrote: “We lost one of our bravest warriors who truly was an inspiration and source of constant encouragement to many people.”
Nick’s funeral will be held at Dundee Crematorium next week and donations are requested for the Brain Tumour Charity.
