A COMMUNITY gardening group has revealed major plans to make the city even more beautiful.

Off the back of its recent AGM, Bonnie Dundee has announced proposals to maintain the condition of green spaces and floral arrangements and improve the look of the area.

Along with several litter picks, the group will take on the task of creating a “spectacular” garden landscape in the newly-opened Slessor Gardens.

The plot, which has been allocated by Dundee City Council, will be one of the first green spaces people will be able to see when crossing the Tay Road Bridge and entering the city.

Trudy Cunningham, the deputy chairwoman of the group, said: “We have taken on a lot more work this year but we are really excited about it.

“The most exciting project is the plot we have been allocated to work on in Slessor Gardens.

“The theme is to arrange the space along the lines of reflections of the Tay.

“It will be one of the first plots people will see when they’re coming in to the city.

“It’s very exciting for us as a community gardening group and we’re hoping to make it spectacular.”

Bonnie Dundee obtained funding to start work on the garden through Tesco’s Bag of Help charity.

The superstore has allocated Bonnie Dundee, along with two other community groups, funding through the money taken from plastic bag charges.

Trudy added: “We also have a lot of litter picks scheduled and in addition to that we have adopted more planters to maintain.

“I think the number we look after now is at 56.

“There are also plans to plant 420 more trees at Middleton Woods.

“With all the work we have planned, volunteers are always welcome.”
