Armed raiders who stole thousands of pounds worth of cash and jewellery from a house in Dundee used a screwdriver to threaten their victim, the Tele can reveal.
It’s four weeks today since the five men burst into a property on Forfar Road, before fleeing police in a pursuit through Perthshire.
The culprits have still not been traced, and the family involved is still said to be “traumatised” by the ordeal.
A 32-year-old man who was present at the time was left shaken but unhurt in the raid.
Neighbour Ume Kalsum, 33, said the victims were still terrified following the incident, and it had also left her fearful for the safety of her own family.
Ume, who works in a shop in the city, said: “At the time of the robbery we went to see the family and asked what happened, because they are our neighbours and friends.
“She told us that the gang used a screwdriver to open the door.
“They were so upset and traumatised at the time, and still are.
“They are still very upset and coming to terms with what happened as they lost a lot of money and gold jewellery.”
Ume added: “If someone came into your house and said ‘give us everything’ you would be so scared.”
Ume, who moved with her husband and three young children to Forfar Road last year, said the raid had also left her and others in the street fearful for their safety.
“I’m so scared now myself, living here,” she said.
“I sometimes used to keep my door unlocked, but not now.
“I used to allow the kids to answer the door too, but now it’s only me or my husband. I have a young family — they are only seven, six and four — so it’s scary this happened a few doors away.
“My next door neighbour is the same, she is scared for her family.”
Another neighbour said the raiders must have known there was money and jewellery in the house.
The neighbour added: “It’s worrying, I suppose, but you just get on with your life.”
When approached by the Tele, a woman in the house targeted in the robbery refused to comment.
A police spokeswoman said that inquiries were ongoing.
