Dundee United has come up trumps for the Tele’s Bald is Beautiful campaign.
Every one of the first team players agreed to sign a strip, which will be auctioned on behalf of the campaign.
Megan Fletcher, 14, the figurehead of the campaign — which is aiming to raise £20,000 for families who have children with cancer — was invited to the club to accept the strip.
Megan, who is a United fan, said: “This is really exciting. It’s great the players have signed a strip for us to auction off and I hope it will raise lots of money for Bald is Beautiful.
“I am delighted the club have agreed to back us up and I’m sure it will help persuade a lot more people to get on board as well.”
Helen Docherty, shop manager at Tannadice, said when she had asked the players and the club if they would be prepared to do something for the campaign they readily agreed.
She said: “The players are all really great at supporting local good causes.
“We literally get hundreds of requests a week to back charitable events and other causes so we obviously can’t support everyone.
“However, it was felt by everyone that we would like to get behind Megan.”
As well as handing over the strip, Megan left Tannadice with a cosy Utd hat.
Accompanying Megan to Tannadice was Marilyn Forbes, who has been a major supporter of Bald is Beautiful.
She was the one who originally approached Dundee United and asked if they could do something major to get behind the campaign.
Marilyn said: “It’s great that they donated the signed strip. I plan to have the strip framed and then we can auction it off
“I’m hopeful the strip could raise several hundred pounds if we can find the right buyer.”
Meanwhile, Marilyn has now confirmed that she is going ahead with her pledge to have her own hair shaved off to raise even more money than the £4,000 she has already achieved.
She added: “I’d like lots of people to come along to Hilltown Indoor Market next Tuesday at 2pm to watch and donate.”
