Dundee West MP Chris Law has been detained and quizzed by police over alleged financial irregularities, it has been revealed.
A spokesman for the SNP told the Tele today that Mr Law had been detained by the police.
The spokesman added: “Chris provided the police with information in relation to a matter under investigation.
“Chris was not charged with any offences.
“He is happy to provide the police with any further information he can in relation to their investigation.
“Chris is confident the matter will be resolved.”
A spokesman for Police Scotland confirmed that a 46-year-old man had been detained but was released pending further inquiry.
Police confirmed that Mr Law was not charged with any offences. A source close to Mr Law confirmed that the MP attended a police station on Wednesday morning and provided information in relation to a matter under investigation.
It is believed the investigation may be focused on his Spirit of Independence referendum campaign, where he toured Scotland in a refurbished Green Goddess fire engine.
Police are already investigating two other SNP MPs, Natalie McGarry, Glasgow East MP, and Edinburgh Western MP Michelle Thomson.
Mr Law could not be reached for comment by the Tele today. Mr Law is a colourful character who got a social anthropology degree at St Andrews University, trained as a chef, organised motorbike tours in the Himalayas and worked as a financial adviser before entering Parliament.
Mr Law was born on October 1969 in Edinburgh.
He became MP for the Dundee West constituency in May 2015, securing the contest with 61.9% of votes.
He took the seat from Labour, a seat that had been held by that party for 65 years previously, with a 17,092 majority — 38.2%.
He represents the SNP in Westminster and was a prominent Yes campaigner during the 2014 Scottish Independence Referendum.
