A career criminal who went on a naked, ecstasy fuelled rampage through a busy toy store — abducting a six-year-old boy then battering the terrified boy’s grandmother with a cricket bat when she intervened — is facing a lengthy jail term.

It today emerged Przemyslaw Kaluzny was previously a member of a Polish criminal gang which stole cars to order before moving to Scotland a year before his crazed attack.

Dundee Sheriff Court heard Kaluzny has served a series of jail terms in Poland for violent offences, including a four-and-a-half year sentence for robbery and 10 months for hostage taking.

His frenzied Easter Sunday rampage was captured in an horrific CCTV video which was shown to a court today.

The court heard how Kaluzny took class A ecstasy that he found in a Kinder Egg on the street before running amok in the store.

He first stripped off as he walked through the store before picking up a six-year-old boy who was on an Easter day out with his dad and grandmother.

CCTV footage played in court shows shoppers walking past as Kaluzny calmly strolls through the store completely naked.

He then grabs the terrified boy and drags him along the ground as he is chased by shoppers and staff.

Fiscal depute Eilidh Robertson told the court: “The father and grandmother ran after the accused, along with staff and members of the public who came to their assistance.

“Numerous persons shouted at the accused to put the boy down, but he continued to hold him whilst swinging the cricket bat at everyone who attempted to go near him, including a member of staff who repeatedly struck him with a shopping trolley in an attempt to get the accused to release his grip.”

Police put Kaluzny, who was struggling violently while completely naked, in handcuffs and leg restraints applied to him, Kaluzny, 41, presently detained at Murray Royal Hospital in Perth, pleaded guilty on indictment to possessing an offensive weapon, behaving in a threatening and abusive manner, public indecency, abduction, assault, assault to injury and vandalism.

Sheriff Lorna Drummond QC deferred sentence for background reports and remanded Kaluzny in custody.
