CHRISTMAS celebrations in Tayside will not be affected by a storm that’s expected to hit other parts of Scotland.

Forecasters have predicted that showers are expected throughout today, with spells of heavier rain the further west you go.

Christmas Day’s weather is expected to be fine in the morning, before worsening during the day. Greg Dewhurst, a forecaster with the Met Office, said: “It’s not going to be too bad a Christmas weekend, especially in comparison to some parts of the UK.

“Christmas morning should have a nice, bright, crisp start, with some ground frost.

“The day will darken with an unsettled end, but the morning will be lovely.”

The temperature will be chilly at a maximum of 8C, with occasional wind gusts.

The evening will get colder, with temperatures falling as low as 1C.

A wet start to Boxing Day is forecast, with winds and patches of sunshine also expected.

Storm Eva is expected to batter parts of Scotland today, bringing winds of up to 80mph.

But Mr Dewhurst said the storm, expected to hit Orkney and Shetland the hardest, will not affect Dundee or Tayside.

The Met Office has issued a yellow ‘be aware’ warning for the Highlands and Islands.
